Class 12 Assertion and Reason Questions chapter 1

Hey viewers ,This is Physics Ladki ... welcome!!

According to new cbse class 12 syllabus and exam paper pattern , some assertion and reason questions will be asked of one mark each...

Not to worry....  i have brought some examples so that you can practice assertion and reason questions from all the chapters... Here i have given only 15 assertion and reason questions ...  From unit 1 class 12 physics

Here are some assertion and reason type questions from chapter 1 (Electric charges and fields) and chapter 2 (Electrostatic potential and capacitance) of class 12 physics cbse exam 2020...

  • Directions. In the following questions, statement of assertion is followed by a statement of reason. While answering a question, you are required to choose the correct one out of the given four responses and mark it as :-
  • A, if both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.
  • B, if both assertion and reason are true but reason is not correct explanation of the assertion.
  • C, if assertion is true, but reason is false.
  • D, if both assertion and reason are false.

  • 1) Assertion : The quantisation effect of charge can be observed only at microscopic level.

Reason : Because, the step size of the electric charge i.e, e is very small.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    2) Assertion : The coluomb force is the dominating force in the universe.

Reason : The coluomb force is weaker than the gravitational force.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    3) Assertion: Coluomb force between two charges is a central force.

Reason : It is because, Coluomb force acts along the line joining the two charges.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    4) Assertion : The concept of electric field offers an explanation as to how an electric charge exerts force on another charge.
Reason : An electric charge modifies the space around it by producing electric field. When some other charge is brought, it experiences force due to the electric filed produced by the first charge.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    5) Assertion : When an electric dipole is placed in an electric field making an angle with the direction of the field, it experiences a torque but zero net force.
Reason : The charges constituting the electric dipole experience equal and opposite forces and their lines of action are separated by some perpendicular distance between them.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4)

    6) Assertion : work done in moving a charge between two points in an electric field is always zero.
Reason : it is because, electrostatic force is non - conservative in nature.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    7) Assertion : A system of three positive charges, each having a charge q placed equally distant from each other along a straight line can not be in equilibrium.
Reason : The charge in the middle experiences zero net force, but the force on the charges at extreme ends is not zero.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    8) Assertion: Though electric potential is scalar, electric potential gradient is a vector quantity.
Reason : It is because, potential gradient is rate of change of potential with distance.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    9) Assertion : Work done in moving a charge on equipotential surface is zero.
Reason : All the points on an equipotential surfaces are at same potential.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    10) Assertion : The capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor increases, when a dielectric or a conducting slab is introduced between its plates

Reason : It happens due to decrease in the electric field between the plates in both the cases

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    11) Assertion : In the absence of an externally applied electric field, the displacement per unit volume of a polar dielectric material is always zero.

Reason : In polar dielectrics, each molecule has a permanent dipole moment but these molecular dipoles are randomly oriented in the absence of externally applied electric field.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    12) Assertion : Gaussian surface is considered carefully.

Reason: The point where electric field to be calculated should be within the surface.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    13) Assertion : When charges are shared between any two bodies no charge is really lost some loss of energy does occur.

Reason : Some energy disappears in the form of heat, sparkling, etc.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    14) Assertion : Electric lines of force never cross each other.

Reason : Electric fields at a point superimpose to give one resultant electric field.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D

    15) Assertion : Electric field intensity within a conductor is always zero.

Reason: Electric field lines of force can pass through the conductor.

    1) A.            2) B

    3) C.             4) D
